Log 2: Warning, Dad Jokes Ahead. Avert Your Pure, Innocent Eyes.
A mysterious little gardening joke I found to start the post today:
Someone has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens.
Pretty good, eh? Eh?
I know last Sunday I was considering posting on Wednesdays too. But I didn't have any thyme (time) to :D. So I think I've settled on checking up on them almost every day, maybe taking note of anything interesting happening, but only posting on Sundays.
Also, it's been raining so much. I kept thinking, "Thistle be such a pain to do outside." Teehee. I was obviously not on cloud nine. Hah. Weather pun. That was funny.
Jokes aside, I'm here to finally write my new post. I've remeasured the plants. I should have expected it considering all the rain that's been pouring down, but I was surprised to find one of the plants had grown a whole inch and a half! Maybe that isn't impressive, but I've never thought to measure my other plants before so I don't know how much they usually grow. Okay, don't worry, I'm about to stop the rambling. Let me first explain what's the deal with this week's post. I have a formula for finding the growth rate for height. It's not technically super accurate, but it's like a growth rate for the week, because the conditions may change sometimes. I've done the calculating, so now I can share that with you!
Aster A - 12.5" height, grew 0.07 inches per day
Not bad, I'd say! For all of the asters I took photos of the new baby leaves that were coming in.
Aster B - 12.5", 0.20" per day
This is the precious angel plant that grew a fabulous one and a half inches. Woopee!
Aster C - 10.5", 0.18" per day
This one did pretty well, too. At this point, I was getting pretty happy sitting in the rain measuring plants.
Aster D - 12", ??? per day
Okay, so I got a little confused here. Last week, it was 13" and somehow it lost an INCH? So either I measured wrong, or the plant was too weak to withstand the heavy rain and got pushed down. Not sure which, but we'll see next week how it goes.
Aster E - 12", ??? per day
Exact same problem happened with Aster E. Am I that bad with a ruler? I'm not too upset though, I have hope in these plants! This project is like an experiment, isn't it? I'll figure it out.
Yarro F - I'd say the grandma (read Log 1) is still the same height. One of the babies in this pot had a broken stem, probably from the rain (1st pic). But I took a photo of the poppies (2nd pic), which had gotten a bit taller and changed in color!
I didn't take any photos for the rest of these.
Yarro G - 5.5", No growth, looked the same!
Yarro H - 4.5". Uh, according to my calculations, it... grew an inch? I mean, yay, but looking at the other yarro, I didn't think that was supposed to happen. I think it was this one leaf that had perked up randomly.
Yarro I - 5.5", yep, still the same.
Both strawberries J and K still looked the same, so I didn't bother. \_('-')_/
Aaaand the poppy seeds were still hiding under the soil, so I let it be.
Alrighty, that's it! I think this was a pretty successful day!
Oh, and did you want to know how to find the growth rate? You just have to find the square root!!
(If you have an actual sense of humor, you probably wouldn't be able to tell that that was another dad joke. To actually find the growth rate, I subtracted the old measurement from the new measurement. Then, I divided that by the amount of days that had passed since I took the old measurement. You're welcome.)
Hope you are still alive after all those puns. Chive never made so many dad jokes before.
